“It’s invigorating to be able to save a patient’s vision when five or 10 years ago it technologically wouldn’t have been possible.” -Dr. Charles M. Mohler, MD PhD
Dr. Mohler didn’t start out with dreams of becoming an ophthalmologist. Originally intending to become a biomedical engineer, he discovered eye care was his calling after being asked to participate in medical school at Case Western Reserve University.
“I discovered I enjoyed people more than the research,” Dr. Mohler said. “I wanted to be hands-on and find ways to help people.”
Dr. Mohler received his BS from Purdue University and his MD from Case Western Reserve University. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at John Hopkins Hospital and his retinal fellowship at John Hopkins and the University of Iowa.
Specializing in disease and retina and vitreous surgery, Dr. Mohler has seen vast improvements in medical technology over the years.
“Our field is always changing,” he said. “With new technology, we can help so many more people, and when we can save someone’s vision, we can go home feeling like we’ve done something good.”
Dr. Mohler is married with two children. He enjoys hiking, golfing and walking his dog.
